I lost my wallet possibly with my Social Security card in it....... what can people really do with my SSN if they picked it up? I'm gonna get a new card....

they can get credit cards and charge large purchases

The Social Security Number is a very important identifier, used by almost any business involved with granting credit. Someone could take that piece of info and commit identity fraud.
Do yourself a favor. Put a fraud alert in with all 3 credit bureaus. If you are fortunate to live in a state that allows your credit to be frozen, then have the credit bureaus do that for a while.

They can literally destroy your life. I hope you contacted the police and any credit card companies. Also contact the credit reporting agencies to make sure no one is fraudulantly using your ss card to get credit cards without your knowledge. Protect yourself with information. Contact the credit reporting agencies immediately
