I would first recommend running a virus scan to make sure your system isn't infected with anything.

If that comes up clean, I would install the program Ad-Aware; it scans your system for data miners and other malware that will slow your system down and removes the offending programs.

The third step would be to do a defragment using your computer's defrag tool which can be found by going to start>Control Panel>Performance and Maintenence>Rearrange Items on your hard disk to make programs run faster (in XP)

Following that same path and clicking on "Free up space on your hard disk" will eliminate temporary internet files that can also slow you down.

I agree with the previous answer's steps, and would also add going into your Internet Options in your internet browser and clearing cookies and internet history and temp files. Also make sure you empty your recycle bins. Try going into Contorl Panel-->Add/Remove programs and get rid of any programs that you really don't use by uninstalling them.

Well in close to all groups, your web is actually plugged into a few field on or close your avenue. When each person plugged into that field attempt to max out their web connections you may also revel in a few slower web. As on your laptop, it does have whatever to do with it. Your internet browser has to load, and your laptop runs it. Viruses too can sluggish down your laptop and absorb plenty of your web connection, making it look sluggish
