, two drugs that do absolutely nothing for you at all - are legal, and the drugs that might open your mind up to realise how you're being fucked every day of your life? Those drugs are against the law. Coincidence?
See, I'm glad mushrooms are against the law, cos I took 'em one time, you know what happened to me? I laid in a field of green grass for four hours, going, 'My God, I love everything.'
Yeah, now if that isn't a hazard to our countries...
How are we gonna justify arms dealing if we know we're all one?

Actually, plenty of other drugs are legal as long as they are prescribed by a licensed physician. Likewise, there are many over-the-counter drugs that are legal.

It makes no sense to me that things that grow naturally should be illegal. If pot were legal, the government could control it and tax it just like tobacco and alcohol. They'd make a bundle. Nobody ever killed someone by driving like a crazy person or got in a fight when they were just high on some MJ.

From experience, cigarettes cause more harm than good, but not enough "immediate" harm to warrant being illegal; alcohol is a great way to start a fight, which is why I gave up drinking. But, being a smoker (bad habit, I know) I know cigarettes are bad for me, and I still use them; I also enjoy pot (illegal but fun, and it can open the mind, as you'd said), as it makes me calm, peaceful, and goofy. Pot takes away all urges to commit violent acts and makes you want to drink root beer and eat tons of food while laughing at stupid stuff. As for why tobacco and alcohol are legal, I'd say tobacco is legal because it helps you relax and, as I said before, doesn't cause "immediate" damage; I have no idea why alcohol is legal.

Now that is EXACTLY why cannabis got banned at the outbreak of World War 1 ( it was previously legal)

Any drug which makes our young men peace loving is, I am afraid, not to be encouraged.

Well spotted.

L fish 98, you just gave me the best laugh I have had in a long long time!

Politician own Tobacco fields and Distilleries not coke/marijuana/opium farms and the people who do aren't their cup of tea.

We need some blue bloods to get involved in LSD and weed and poppy plants and THEN it'll be legal.

As usual, not one answer from anyone who really knows the subject. All of the answers above are at least partially wrong.

If you want to know when and why these drugs became illegal, see http://druglibrary.org/schaffer/library/mj_outlawed.htm and http://druglibrary.org/schaffer/library/opiates_outlawed.htm

If you want to know why alcohol is not illegal (after once being illegal) see http://druglibrary.org/prohibitionresults.htm

If you want a good general history of the subject, see http://druglibrary.org/schaffer/Library/studies/cu/cumenu.htm

Tobacco is legal largely because the tobacco companies claimed for years that tobacco smoking was good for the health. They would often feature doctors and nurses in their ads.

Ignore answers from anyone who can't give you references. Most people don't know their butt from their elbow on the subject.

Good point . I know the whole country would be alot less violent if they would just legalize pot. They will give you nerve pills - but GOD forbid you smoke a joint .
