It helps to define what torture REALLY is and not what the PC crowd tries to make it. Putting panties on a Muslim's head is NOT torture. Embarrassing them is NOT torture. Even playing loud music and other acts of mild sleep deprivation are NOT torture. Torture are acts that cause real pain, physical suffering or serious mental breakdown. That brings down the bar of what is allowable significantly.

Beyond that torture (and lesser forms of interrogation) should be done at the hands of trained professionals in controlled environments who know how to exact information without causing permanent harm to the person being questioned. It also should be done only when there is a high level of confidence that the person knows information vital to the safety of our troops or innocent civilians.

I'm sure someone can point to a Jack Bauer moment where serious torture has to be done in the field due to immediate and life-threatening situations, but such situations are the exception...not the rule...and should be reviewed by senior commanders at the first opportunity for appropriateness.

There are two reasons for torture.

1.- There is torture to punish people like Arab terrorist do to whom ever they capture, even if they are Arabs, Shiites against Sunnis and vice versa. Or of any other nationality.

This should never be used by advanced societies.

2.- Torture to get information, from someone you know he knows what you want.
In this case I believe that if the person that knows, for example, where a bomb has been planted and will explode in a matter of time, and does not want to say where. Torture is necessary to save maybe hundreds of lives.

Its all a matter of PRIORITIES.
What is more important, the well being of a terrorist, or the lives of hundreds of Innocent people?

Christianism permits self defense.

You are talking about "torture" to obtain information, not torture as punishment or power or retribution, or (sport).
There is also torture of innocents to coerce vital information from their relatives / close friends. There is torture as part of a higher plan of influence over a larger scope enemy. (the so-called greater good). And there are forms of torture other than painful physical- psychological, sensory deprivation, such that little or no permanent damage is done.
Terms, conditions, modalities must be clear, witnessed and supervised, and enforced, with outcome measurables.

Torture should never be used, and none is acceptable. That is the only sane answer. What kind of person can torture someone?

Just a question, Why do you care? Whether you agree with it or not, torture techniques are going to be used when military officials deem it neccessary. This probably varies from person to person. I am totally for this too!

Yes I think torture should be used on both Sodamn insane and Osama Binladen I think that we should show Sodamn Insane what a pain it is to have your arms cut off like he did to his people and show Osama what it is like to burn alive like he did to our people we should load up a bunch of Osama's buddy's into a 727 and fly them into the cave that he is hideing in but only the plane be full loaded so that we can get rid of at least .0000003% of his people.

Torture should be used on the people who are torturing our people.

Turnabout is fair play, and the hell with the bleeding heart liberals.
