you need to reseam it by:

1) trim back both edges of carpet if frayed
2) buy 4" seam tape and rent a seaming iron
3) cut the tape to size
4) heat iron to setting between 4 and 6
5) put tape under carpet edges
6) place iron on tape and melt the tape
7) move iron slowly across tape while pressing down on carpet edges with a weigted object that is flat
8) go over freshly reseamed carpet with hands gently brushing fibers to eliminate visibility of seam
9) pat yourself on the back.

or you can just hire a carpet guy to do it professionally if your carpet is fairly new and don't plan on buying new carpet for a while.

by the way, if you don't do it right and trim back too much or burn the carpet... your stuck

there is tape that goes under the 2 pieces of carpet. You need to get the tape hot so that the glue on it melts. After the tape had hardened, there is a roller to use on the carpet to make the seam visually go away.

cheaper to hire a carpet guy for a quick repair than buy all that stuff.

Though its best to have them professionally resewn, you can make a good repair with two sided sticky tape. Make sure the floor is clean under the split area, apply the tape to the floor first, then pull the carpet (or pad then carpet) as close as you can. This fix will not likely last a long time. If you want to save your carpet, I encourage you to have a professional come in and sew it. CY

Just pick up some carpet tape. Lift it up, put the tape on one side....then put it down and press the other side down firmly....rake your finger nails over the seem a bit to make it blend together.

use carpet tape on the back and you rub it some and there you are......Can't tell the differents.......Hay and if you get burns in it or in your car --then just take a razor blade and shave a spot that is not so noticeable -like in a closet or under the seat and then just a dab of super glue--put the shaving in the burn spot...It works perfectly...
