Try first to restart in safe mode to save your file ,, clich f10 or del ( according to your lap top model to enter safe mode during startup ( once the black screen appear click the appropriate tab),, this will take longer time than the normal start up,,, then transfere your file into another drive away from the drive with your opertaing system,,, mostly your system is on C drive so put your files into D or E drive,,, then restart again,,, if still nothing happen,, you have to reinstall windows again,,on drive C,, do not worry on your files,, they will remain intact as long as you format only C,,, after you doing that,,, use updated antivirus to check your files before using them again,, one of them may be infected and cause the problem,,,
your files will be intact but you have to reinstall all of your programs again

You should try a system restore first. To do this go to Start Menu
All Programs
Accessories
System tools
System Restore
Simply restore to a day or two before this started.
Sounds like you may need to re-install windows. You can do this without losing all of your file if you do it right. To do this insert your windows disk and restart your computer it will not start normally. It will give you an option to do a system recovery you should choose the option that doesn`t include re-formatting your hardrive. This process is different for different brands of computer; I. E. Compaq, Dell, Gateway. Because they all have their own brand of Windows so you may want some1 with some CPU savvy to help you out.
After it is done you may not be able to see all of your pictures and music where they were. They might be floating around on your hardrive. So you will have to go grab them. to do this go to start menu then search. Leave the file name fields blank and search for picture and music files. This will grab those files and whalla.
Or just take it into a shop they can do this for you if you explain the situation right.

Well I can relate to your question since I had a simillar problem. What I did was I first rebooted the computer, meaning insert a CD a disk that the company should have provided and follow the instructions and it will be like a brand new computer. Than run a anti virus scan. SBC Yahoo is good. I would first run a anti virus scan than reboot the entire computer. And if your still having the problem go to the manufacturer's website or call them. Everything should be back to normal at this point. Well good luck

If not your laptop is having hardware problems, it sounds like your laptop is infected with virus, which slows down your system.
Try to get a hold of any anti-virus software (hopefully your laptop do have one already, if not install one), and scan the whole HD with the latest updated virus list provided by the anti-virus software. Well, I'll say start from here to illuminate the virus possibility, before you attempt to look at the hardware side.
On the other hand, you can try to keep your windows XP (I assume you're using it as the OS) updated with Microsoft Windows Updates. Always have the anti-virus software running residentally on your system to protect your laptop from further virus attacks.
But getting your laptop virus-scanned is a crucial part that you can't ignore it.

I'd suggest you take it to a professional to get help. Maybe where you got it from, if it is a reputable source they should have some help for you, especially as it was only August when you got it. To try and debug your problems on a forum like this is so hard. You need to be able to see what is happening and the settings on your machine. And it sounds to me like your problems are going to get worse, if they can.
