No- it is a character from the Dr. Doolittle book, it a visual representation of what happens when people can't get along or won't make compromises. which, it could be argued, could represent some peoples experience of love!
i remeber that the push-me-pull-you never could go very far bc it couldn't agree which way to go....now the same name is used on lots of other things (do a yahoo search) but that is the origin.
