Plan on $600-$700 to have the job done right. the labor time is about 5.5-6 hours and that's for an experienced mechanic. If you are not familiar with turning a wrench, I would not recommend doing it yourself because there are 100s of places to make mistakes and you can easily create problems where there were none. I hope the people suggesting that you replace head gaskets yourself have done the job before because I would bet it takes you several days to do vs 5 hours for someone that has done them before.
If you value your time more than your money, have the gaskets professionally replaced. It would also be a good time to check/replace valve seals & block/head flatness. There could be many other things wrong that you might bump into or not see and spend hours just running back and forth getting parts and before you know it, days have gone by.

If it's a cracked block then the engine must be replaced. A cracked block cannot be repaired, unless it's cracked on the outside somewhere which is very unlikely. If it's a blown head gasket it will be an expensive repair as this is a big job. The assocciated gaskets can run nearly $200.00 in all, and then you have to think about labor, which will also be expensive due to the involvement of such a task. You might want to look for a used engine as this could be cheaper and can probably be done faster than the gassket repair. All told the repair shouldn't cost more than $600.00 and that's inflated dealership prices, anybody tries to charge more than that, tell them to stop ripping people off. Good luck my friend.

It's going to be at least a few hundred, because shop labor rates are expensive. The gaskets themselves are cheap, so if you have a place and the ability to work on it yourself, I would suggest that.

I think head gaskets can run about $500 on any vehicle, because the labor is intensive. I think?

A lot more than it would cost to do it yourself. Just go buy a maintenance book for your vehicle and get to work.

depends what state you live in - different people make different wages, have different transportation costs, etc. - You should talk to a few local repair centers in your area and get your own average
