Temple Square right now is GORGEOUS with all the lights... go to a Jazz game, shop, ski...
depends on what kind of food you like...I like pasta so I love the Old Spaghetti Factory at Trolley Sqaure.
Good luck.

Here's an old story:
A guy that works as a salesman for a company is told they're having a contest to see who sells the most. He asks, "What's the prize?" His boss tells him, "First prize is a week in Salt Lake City." "Really," says the salesman, "what's second prize?" "Two weeks in Salt Lake City!" says his boss. :)
If you only have one day, you're probably not going to be able to take advantage of the best thing in SLC, the skiing. Most of the good places are 2-3 hours outside the city, in the mountains. You could, but you'd have to rush and wouldn't get much skiing in.
You can go tour the mormon temple complex, but be careful -- don't put your name and address in the "visitor book" or you'll get visited by the mormon missionaries when you get home, and they're very agressive.
Lots of good places to eat, but avoid Chinese or Thai food -- I've never found a good restaurant for either of those in SLC.

Haven't heard of a "curse." I have, however, heard of a prophecy where Salt Lake City would become one of the most wicked cities. Just recently I read that someone rated Salt Lake City as like 11th across the nation in being friendly to homosexuals, which made my mouth drop, as most of us who actually live here in the state are committed to the divine pattern of families established by God, with marriage between a man and a woman. The ACLU seems to reign supreme in the heart of the city, by the way. P.S. So are you saying you believe in polygamy? P.S. S. Bartolomeo, I can't answer your question without being accused of chatting, and you don't take email for some reason. Friendliness is absolutely ok, but I mean to say that openly supporting an alternative lifestyle on the scale that a city government would be included in a national rating would not.

Since Pinkadot already mentioned the Spaghetti Factory on the second floor of Trolley Square on 700 East and 600 South, I will also add that my family also liked going to get pizza at Litza's Pizza on 716 East and 400 South. There is a link below for five places which have yummy ice cream / banana splits. Besides Temple Square I would say if you like cultural stuff to look at there is the Museum of Fine Arts at the University of Utah, link below. I would have recommended Kennecott Copper Mine, but their visitors' center is closed until March 30, but another museum you can check out just west of the Capitol building is the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, see link below as well. Anyway, there are some ideas.

The great salt flats. I don't think you would want to spend a whole day there though.. Interesting to see but a long long boring drive though it... I am sure there is many great things to do there. Have fun!
