I only gained 20 pounds. The Dr. wanted me to gain a little more but I just couldn't. I was a little bit overweight, but not much. When you are overweight they recommend that you gain no more than 30 pounds during the pregnancy. It's doable, just don't go crazy with your eating by using your pregnancy as an excuse. I gave up sodas for the most part, but would allow myself to have a large Coke or Dr. Pepper once a week. Just listen to your body and eat when you are hungry and stop when you are full and it will be okay. I was back in my clothes one week after giving birth to my daughter because I gained so little. Make sure you are already on pre-natal vitamins if you are trying to conceive, and if you have real concerns about your weight and conception then talk to your Dr. for advice. You can try to shed pounds while trying to get pregnant, but once you know you are pregnant, stop any weight loss efforts. But even during pregnancy, exercise is good for you, aim for a daily walk. Good Luck.

I was 150lbs when I got pregnant. I gained a whopping 70 lbs during my pregnancy. I was not able to lose any of it, due to PPD and stress, at first. How much you gain is really determined by what you eat. No two people will gain or lose the same amount. Don't let the possibility of gaining weight stop you from having a child, with exercise and a good diet after the birth, you can lose it. Now that my PPD and stress are under control, I have lost 15 pounds. Hope this helps.

It varies with every pregnancy.
My 1st I gained 55 lbs and then lost 50 of it after birth because it was mostly water.
My 2nd I gained 25 lbs, no water, and was left with 10 over my pre-preg weight that I never lost.
My 3rd I gained 17 lbs and weighed less after he was born. I walked daily and really watched what I ate. I pretty much followed a diabetic diet.
My 4th I gained 35 lbs (lots of water) and was back at pre-pregnancy weight at 2 months post-partum.
I'm overweight also, be really careful. Walk and watch your diet to help with BP and pre-eclampsia.
The doctor will probably tell you to only gain around 15-20 lbs, due to weight, but things like water retention are hard to factor into that!

if you are already overweight you will probably only be told to gain about 20lbs during your pregnancy.
The most important part is that you eat healthy and that the baby is growing properly, you're doctor will let you know what is a healthy amount to gain.
Right after giving birth the average woman has lost somewhere between 10 and 20 lbs depending on size of baby, blood, fluid, placenta etc.

After i had the baby i had lost 35lbs at my 6 week check up. my advice is just be sure to stay active during your pregnancy and eat healthy. my son weighed 7lbs and 6oz.
