Death isn't "bad"... Death is just about the only thing in this life we can be 100% sure of. But death is ultimately a loss - we lose our loved ones to it, and will ultimately lose ourselves. It's an uncomfortable and sometimes downright frightening proposition. Besides, death is seldom quick and clean - some of the most agonizing experiences are associated with it and precede it. As to going to the "better place" - face it, no one really knows what happens. Not you, not anyone else. If you accept the no-nonsense view that the human body and mind are biological in origin, then death is as final as it gets. I think, it very easy to understand why contemplating death makes us all uncomfortable.

Whatever an individual's personal belief about what comes after death - heaven, eternity, or nothing - I think its the ethos that surrounds how we live our PRESENT life that affects our fear of death.

If we life in a destructrive, selfish, unloving way, we are more likely to regret our lives and what we have done, and death gives finality to teh end of a life which we wish we could've lived differently.

A shift of focus from goodness and love to materialism also creates more fear of death, since material things will not make this present life worthwhile in the long term. It provides no satisfaction to counter the unknown that is death.

Yeah sure...if you subscribe to religion. Each one always has you going off to Vallhalla, heaven or whatever/wherever you're supposed to spend enternity.
The reason people fear death is because of the unknown. No one truly wants to die when you don't know what's going to happen once you've shuffled off this mortal coil.
So...your vision of a place "way more greater than the one we're in now" is really faith based and nothing more. However if this gives you the courage to face death...bravo.

Death is the unknown. It's the Final Frontier. Many of us have definite opinions about what it's like, but since we don't know anybody who has died and told about it, all we can do is believe what we believe. None of us will really know until we get "there". Those who are truly afraid of it probably don't believe we have an Eternal Home in Heaven. But, even if they do, leaving all that we know is scary.

I dont think that it is a bad thing, b/c if it is so bad, then why would God let it happen!!! It is good, b/c you get to leave the world full of so much pain and enter into a place that is full of happiness and grace!!!! People just need to calm down and know taht god is in total control!!!! and that everything happend for a certain reason!!!!

Everyone wants to go to heaven, but nobody wants to die to get there.
You are right, this is just school. Someday we will all go back home. I think they are afraid of the unknown and afraid that maybe they didn't do all the right things. They couldn've done more. They know there will be a test and they didn't study for it.

There are many reasons for it: first of all it is the death of the physical body. One associates the person with the physical body.
Secondly it is the fear of the unknown. So many religions, so many theories. I believe that the spiritual body remains with us for a long time.. You can still talk to and communicate with the person. There is no death, there is no dead. We still love you and you will remain in our hearts.

People are afraid of death because they no nothing about it. They don't know what it will feel like, when it will happen, how it will happen, or anything about it. Some people aren't sure of what happens after you die. How judgemental is God? is there purgatory?

People are scared of what they don't know. They are afraid of what they cannot control. Death is both of these.

You are correct but the fact of passing away possibly before I love ones and the fact you have to do it alone is scary. Do you remember people from this life in the after life or is there no mother , father, sister and brothers?

Death is an uncomfortable subject for many people. We have no real way of knowing what happens when a person dies. We cannot interview dead people. We only know what we have heard, which are only opinions.
