Here are a few things scheduled for New Years in Ottawa. Don't know your price range. Most upscale hotels have something planned. You can try the Marriott Hotel' Merlot (revolving restaurant) Westin Hotel

Party in Manotick
Looking for a place to party with family or friends on New Year’s Eve? The Orchard View Reception and Conference Centre in Manotick may just fit the bill. Orchard View is a large conference facility in a rural setting about 20 minutes south of downtown Ottawa. Most of the time it’s rented out to groups for things like weddings or business meetings. But every year, Orchard View organizes special events that are open to the public. Their annual New Year’s Eve Gala is one such event. For $125 per person, you can party from 5:30 p.m. to past midnight. The price covers all beverages, including wine, as well as a five-course meal and a midnight snack and dancing with a live band. Information: www.orchardview.ca, (613) 821-2675.

New Year’s mystery
If you want to make sure the old year is really dead, you can celebrate New Year’s with a murder mystery evening. On December 31, Eddie May Mysteries will present two special performances a Christmas-themed murder mystery called A Christmas Cruel (a.k.a. The Turn of the Scrooge) at the National Arts Centre—one in the Panorama Room, the other in the Fountain Room. Both performances start at 8 p.m. and include dinner, dancing after the murder is solved and champagne at midnight. For information: www.eddiemay.com, (613) 850-9700.

Elegance for New Year’s
One of Ottawa’s most elegant New Year’s celebrations takes place at the National Arts Centre. It combines a beautiful meal with an evening of dancing in a sumptuous setting in the Arts Centre’s main foyer. If you need convincing, check out the menu: it includes a starter of seared eggplant, goat cheese and roasted capsicum with micro-cress and a vincotto drizzle; a main course choice of roast of Angus beef or Atlantic sole, and finishes off with a tian of bittersweet chocolate and caramelized mandarin profiteroles. Yum!

Operatic New Year
The Château Cartier Golf Resort & Spa, 1170 Aylmer Road in Gatineau, will be celebrating New Year’s Eve in its ballroom with “An Evening at the Opera” theme. The New Year’s Eve party costs $119 per person and includes an open bar cocktail, a five-course dinner including wine and a “phantom” guest with an opera to toast the arrival of 2007. If you want to stay the night, the hotel has several overnight packages available for New Year’s. www.chateaucartier.com, (819) 778-0000.

Sophisticated New Year’s
ARC the.hotel is Ottawa’s original boutique hotel. It combines soft, muted colours, a trademark apple scent, limestone, dark woods and unique fabric wall art into a look that is sleek and urban. If you’re looking to celebrate New Year’s in a serene, contemporary and restful setting downtown, the Arc has a New Year’s Eve package that includes one night’s accommodation, kir royal with canapés, a five-course table d’hôte dinner in the Arc Lounge and breakfast for two in bed on New Year’s Day. The cost of the package starts at $299. www.arcthehotel.com, (613) 238-1259.
