This happened to my husband. If you google "cell phone cloning" you can get all sorts of details on this. Basically, someone gets the programming codes for your specific type of cell phone and programs another phone with these codes and your phone number. Then when they make phone calls, it is charged to your bill. Their phone will work exactly as if it were their own, only you're the one stuck paying the bill. I tried to explain to my cell phone provider that I believed this happened to us, but they couldn't prove it and we had to pay for it.

Mobile cloning is the mobile phone version of hacking. When your phone gets hacked, the hacker can make phone calls on your behalf and rack up your bill. There is really nothing that you can do other than report it to your phone company and change phone numbers.

As for how they do it, a person just needs a laptop and a SIM scanner.

It is up to the phone companies to improve their digital encryption to prevent mobile cloning from happening. Going from analog to digital networks helped a little bit, but we need smarter phone companies.

phone cloning is more or less hacking into someone's phone and thereby tracking whatever activity the person uses the phone for.

it is where someone steals your number with a scanner and then they program it into a phone they have so they can use your number to make free calls
