First, I have a 19" Viewsonic CRT monitor that is about 5 yrs old. It sometimes displays so dimly that you can hardly see it but then it seems it will correct to proper brightness. Not the controls. Does anyone know why this would happen? It's hard to believe that a Viewsonic that is no more than 5 yrs old is going bad already but maybe so.
Second, I just purchased a Samsung Syncmaster 931BW widescreen LCD monitor and cannot find any reviews on it. Can someone direct me to a place for reviews? I can find them on just about any other Samsung product but this one.
TIA
Steve

The CRT itself is a big vaccum tube. Like all vaccum tubes it requires a certain amount of voltage and heating. The voltage is controlled by the flyback transformer and is partially responsible for the brigthness as well.

It is possible that the flyback transformer is faulty.
