He's a grumpy, cynical, negative old man and he never has anything important or even remotely sane to say. Why does 60 minutes, a respectable news program, have this old goat complaining about everything in life on their show?

Rooney is the only legitimate journalist on the show. He was with either Yank, or Stars and Stripes, during World War II and was with the allies with they liberated Paris. His views should be respected.

Though originally a regular correspondent, Rooney now has his own "end-of-show" segment, A Few Minutes with Andy Rooney, in which he offers satire on a trivial everyday issue, such as the cost of groceries, annoying relatives, or faulty Christmas presents. Rooney's often irritable observations are frequently parodied. In recent years his segments have become more political, as well. For example, Rooney has become quite critical of George W. Bush and the 2003 Iraq War. Despite being known best for these segments, Rooney has always considered himself a writer who appears on television.

His shorter television essays have been archived in numerous books, such as Common Nonsense, which came out in 2002, and Years of Minutes, released in 2003. He also has a regular syndicated newspaper column that runs in many newspapers in the United States. He has won three Emmy Awards for his essays, which now number more than 800. He was also awarded a Lifetime Achievement Emmy.

60 minutes, Andy Rooney-How OLD is he? He has to be nearly 90 by now. He is so irrelevant. He's a dinosaur. Let the man retire before he passes on the air!

I think that Andy Rooney gives us some perspective on the way things are...and the things were. He isn't complaining (as he feels), he just wants us to realize sometimes we get a little caught up in everything. It is his job to be like this.

He does complain in my opinion...but I think he is pretty humerous...I'm glad he is still around. Too each their own I guess.

When it comes to the longevity of Andy Rooney I think The Onion said it best:

Andy Rooney voices a lot of things that really do irritate people. Plus, he's pretty doggone funny sometimes to imitate. Did you ever notice?

Because he isn't dead yet. Or perhaps because he has J. Edgar Hoover's old files, and they wouldn't dare kick him off. That, and your opinion is not shared by a lot of other people.
