Make sure the drive on your computer that you are using to burn disks is a DVD-RW drive. CD-RW drives wont burn to DVD-R disks.

If your drive does turn out to be CD-RW and not a DVD-RW, you always have the option of buying a USB DVD-RW drive for your computer.

this is going to sound stupid, but are you sure that you have a dvd burner instead of just the cd-rw? if it says dvd-rom then it will not burn.

if that's not the case, then it's in the software you're using. for instance nero, you have to select whether or not you want to make a video cd or a dvd.

No one will be able to help you without knowing the burning software you are using.
