I have gone through at least 6 controllers, since I got my Playstation 2. I lose about 1 controller a year. My first two could have been because I abused them whenever I got pissed to that point, but eversince then I have been pretty careful.

And whenever one malfunctioned, it was the same symptom every time. It would always want to move the character to the left very slowly; and/or cursor would cycle through all the option faster than I could ever do myself. I think maybe one of them might have had a turbo button, but only one of them if any, so that can't be the problem. The worst thing is that it isn't consistant: sometimes it works; sometimes it doesn't. Just to be a bigger pain in my ***!

My cousin got his Playstation 2 about a month before I got mine and he's had the same controller eversince! Dust collects easily in my house so maybe that's it. And now my new infrared controllers are starting to screw with me. What's wrong with them? Did I anger the PS2 gods?

It could be dust, could be you press down too hard on the controller, could be when you wrap up the controller you bend the cord causing it to malfunction, or it could be when you turn on the system you have the joystick moved. this was an issue with the first analog sticks on the N64. if you had the joystick moved at boot the system wouldn't respond correctly.

I've had a similar problem with my controller, but not as often as you. But I did have a controller that did exactly the same thing yours did. I noticed while playing Tiger Woods golf that every once in a while I could not hit the ball straight, then the next day, it would be fine. And other times, while on a menu, it would cycle through all the choices at a hundred miles and hour. I ended up having to buy a new controller each time.

yeah do what that guy reported...visit walmart purchase a sparkling controller, then attempt no longer to interrupt the kit at the same time as u open it, so as that u can positioned the old one in there. Then, take lower back the controller that doesnt artwork contained in the kit alongside with ur receit and tell them it didnt artwork for some reason, and then they'll probable both provide you ur money lower back or let u substitute for a sparkling one, both way ur in reality getting a controller for free lolz, good luck

This is just a simple calibration problem.
Make sure you're not pushing the control stick at all when you turn the system on or plug in the controller.
