For an all around vehicle that not too much car, and not too much SUV, I'd try a used Saturn Vue. It has the same size interior as some mid-sized SUV's, like the Explorer and get's excellent gas mileage, even in the V6.

If you are in college, it's a great vehicle, if you plan on starting a family soon, it's a great vehicle. If you want to trick it out, many of parts for other GM cars fit the Vue easily.

And they are CHEAP! in comparison with other SUVs. I own a 2003 and I wouldn't trade it for the world. Well maybe I would.

Mine is a 5 speed 2.2L. Yes! The 4 cyl versions offer a manual transmission!

Hope my input helps.

A wrx impreza wagon is 5 doors, I believe 2.5L and has a nice interior. And to the person who answered first, a Honda civic doesnt have 5 doors and/or an engine over 2.0L...only the new SI's are 2.0L.

The 2 liter engine might be an issue for you, but a Honda is a good choice.

I have a used Chevy Blazer, and it's been the greatest-- I have put over 160,000 hard miles on it, with not a lot of big repairs. It is comfortable to drive-- feels like I am driving my easy chair down the road!!! And the mileage isn't bad, either. Good Luck!!
