I have a male betta in a 3 gallon tank with a small rock hide out and one leafy fake plant. I was thinking of ditching the rock so I can vaccum his tank easier. I also read that betta prefer real/silk bushy plants. Do betta fish like hideaways?

Bettas usually will not hide inside caves, but some do. Does your's? If he does hide inside his cave, don't remove it. But if he ignores it, then yeah, you can remove it.

All fish are better off with silk or real plants, and opposed to plastic plants. Plastic plants are hard and can have sharp edges. Silk plants are fine, but if you have a fluorescent light, real plants are great to work with. Guppy grass, java moss and java fern are 3 plants that even the most basic fluorescent light can grow and that are impossible to kill. And you can let them float so it will not interfere with the gravel vac.

Your fish will probably like whatever you put in the tank and keep clean. As long as they have a place to rest (mine sits on plastic flower) and to get away from light if he wants too (shade from plant) he will be fine. My daughter pets her Betta.

If he seams to like his hide out then leave it.

I would recommend real plants because they help maintain water quality.
