For the company that wants to make sure that their employees are doing what they are supposed to at all times, mystery shoppers are good. If you have ever worked at a fast-food restaurant, then you have been told by your boss that a mystery shopper will come in at any time between a certain set of dates. But since you dont know who or when, you are supposed to do it all right, all of the time in order to get high marks for your store.

For the mystery shopper, it is a great way to make some extra money and get free stuff cuz you get reimbursed for every penny you spend and then make the amount specified to do that project.

Mystery shopping is a method adopted by the management of a shop or company to evaluate their own performance by sending hired byres with out the knowledge of the working staff. You have to apply to become a mystery shopper at the websites of these market research companies. They will then contact you if they have any assignment in your area. I did it for my company. Its good to know how your employes are with other people. It also lets you know how your product is being sold. I worked in a restaurant and had to tell the owner how the service was and how the food was served and how it tasted. It was fun working on the other side. I got a free dinner out of it, lol!!!!

I think it's because the corporates at the top want to see how the retail sector is doing, but don't want to get the "special" treatment when they come in. They need an honest evaluation and honest feedback to know where they are doing well and where they need to improve.
It's just one more tool they use to improve their services.
