Yes a person can survive

with 2 dollars you can go to walmart and buy food.

30 cents = 2 ramen soups
50 cents = 2 sodas from the vending machine
50 cents = a chocolate bar for energy
70 cents = some fruit, like 2 apples or two oranges

For a week
1 gal whole milk $3.00 2 cups a day or 300 calories + protein
1 can frozen orange juice $1.20 1glass a day 60 cal
cabbage or onions or what is cheap in season $3.00 40 calories
4 lbs of beans, rice,flour,oats etc $4.00 about 1000 calories a day
this would leave $2.80 a week for extras like salt, sugar, spices, bacon or meat for flavor and cooking oil 300 cal a day

this would keep you alive and reasonable healthy

many people in the world survive on less than that per week and still provide for their families. There are many food banks and food kitchens that can help the poor in america, you sometimes have to lower your pride and ask for help. When the crisis is over, remember to return the favor by donating your time or resources to help others who are where you were once.

Wal-Mart brand dog food 38 cents a can (less if you buy in bulk) and water. Then an off brand of Ketchup and day old bread with water to drink.

You will have all the elements of a healthy diet, plus your coat (I mean hair) will be nice and shiny!

But not good for entertaining guests!

Sure, the best bet us to buy dry beans and rice and spaghetti in bulk. You can get tons of food for a few bucks. Live on that, and you'd have enough left over to occasionally treat yourself to some fruit or meat or a cheap frozen burrito.

No they can't... but they often have to in this country. It is a goddamned shame too!

A serving of meat (A few ounces)

A small bag of rice.

A few boxes of pasta (or 1 box and a can of sauce.)

Beans.

A few apples or bananas.

If you save up over a few days you can maybe even make a meal! It is ABSOLUTELY DISCUSTING how the old and poor are treated in this country and how those with the most money (the famous) prefer to take their fortunes to Africa where their governments lock up charitable efforts in store houses and refuse to distribute it to them... often leaving it there until it rots!

My mother is a very proud woman who refuses help from anyone... Social security often leaves her hungry. Sometimes, she has to make due on just about this much.

(don't say a word, we try to help her every day and she refuses or lies) people from her generation and ethnic background just make due...

$2 i dont know how much that actually is relatively speaking... (im in UK). but is $14 a week.
you should go and buy bread, beans, rice and pasta, that wont even take half your budget, the rest use for milk, fruit and veg. buy meat minimally, your body doesnt need so much of that.
if we were talking £'s not $'s then £2 a day is plenty. i fed 2 of us for less for over 4 years.

Sure, but it may not be too healthy though.
I went to walmart one day and found a bag of instant noodles that only cost 10 cent!!

You can use the rest of the money to buy milk, drink and so on.
You can buy 20 bags!! and fill you up!! in couple of days!

Everybody seems short sighted so far. Buy for a week or two at a time. Loaf of bread, sandwich meats, eggs, pasta, rice, potatoes, beans etc. Save leftovers and combine them for a new meal.
