I have a number of gay and alternative friends and am apart of a social justice organization for homosexual youth. However...as a representative of my group, the lot of us are confused as to why draq queens posess an air of superiority and behave well to be blunt like b i t c h e s? They act like they are better than us and take being a woman too far...this is also a problem amongst extremely emasculated males that have attitudes and such. I am nothing but nice to them but they act like they deserve all of the attention. How do i handle the situation when a drag queen wants to take over our meetings that we hold? serious and considerate answers only.

A lot of the more effeminate members of the gay community along with the ultra-masculine will attempt to dominate where ever possible. You may notice that they are quite outspoken.

This is one of their mechanisms used for their defense most likely due to the troubles they have gone through by the point that they've met you. You have to understand that both of these extremes would receive far more slack from society than the regular homosexual. They get to the stage where they try to stop caring what people think and the barrier goes up so they become somewhat dominant in social situations.

This is just something you will have to accept... nothing you can do. Let them be who they are and the way they are unless they get out of hand.

They just want attention and recognition. Do your meetings have a structured format? Is there a moderator? Is there an elected leader? What are your rules and processes for getting things done? If you don't have one already, get some sort of system in place that decides who is doing the talking. It can be a moderator, a secretary or by who ever is holding a baton. When these well meaning new comers violate the rules, just tell them what is up and remind them that they have to wait there turn. It sounds like you are going to have to be firm with some of these people, but be kind too. Then let them have their say when it is their turn for the right amount of time and then on to the next person. Start voting on issues - whether to adopt or drop.

Hm...thats a tough one, because I have seen drag queens on t.v. and stuff but never actually met one in real life. But I have dealt with women who think they are better than everyone else and wear tons of makeup and kind of look like drag queens. I would probably just let them know kindly and politely "look, I am holding a meeting here, I am the chairperson and it would be polite for you to not interrupt me and try to take over" Just be considerate, because even though they may act all tough and better than everyone else, deep down they are people too, and can probably communicate well when being confronted in a calm, polite manner. Hope this helps!

putting on make up and dressing up in drag i have found makes drag queens able to put over a new personna and be as rude and outrages as poss... I believe its like being on stage where ever you go, the person inside need never be at fault because of the mask. I would suggest maybe askin them not to be dressed up at the metings unless they feel that is how they must always be dressed to feel comfortable.

I know stereotypically they act like "divas", but if you are in a meeting then there are rules of order so that everyone gets a fair chance to speak. If there is a recognized leader of the meetings then you would need to discuss your feelings with that person. And then they would address the persons who are causing the problem. Otherwise I would see if anyone else who takes part in your meetings feels this way. Then you and and anyone else who supports you could speak to them in person and let them know how disruptive they are being and that it is detrimental to the group as a whole.Good luck!

out of the few drag queens I've known it seems that most of those were also drama queens. I'm sure not all of them are that way but it's just an observation I've made
