I live in Montreal, Canada and would like to have a small pig for a pet - i live in an apartment. What do they eat? Are they affectionate because that is what i want, to cuddle sometimes.

We have had them as pets. Yes they are wonderful pets. They can easily be litter box trained. You have to limit their food intake even though they seem like they are starving and they are as affectionate as you are to them. Yes the female will be a bit testy while in heat, and then right back to normal. They are sensitive to the cold and heat. You can never pour cold water on a pig when they are hot, and if you have a white(pink) one, they sunburn! They don't shed and have the cutest nose. It is easy to teach them several tricks. Do not over feed one. They eat generally 1/2c in the am and one in the pm and a treat a couple times a week. They are very, very smart, so putting things where they can't reach them will be a challenge. They can also jump onto your bed - even if they act like they can't they are just wanting you to put them up there! They are good watch dogs also. You will have to get some iron for your pet from a vet. They get iron from the dirt when they root around for food, so inside they need to be supplemented. They can open cub boards and doors, so beware, they can do alot more than people give them credit!!!! They are also cleaner than a cat or dog!
They are really fun pets. We have Jack Russel's and they are a hand full right now.But if I get recovered from surgery enough to ever have another we will!

They can be litter box trained and they are or can be affectionate. The female can be testy when they go into heat. The males can be neutered and are nice. You must restrict how much food they eat as if you feed them alot the will get big like a regular pig.
My sister in law breeds and raises them. They are cute but still a pig in my opinion.
She has one in the house that is small and cute she snuffles around in the kitchen and looks for food. She will sometimes race around the house. Hers asks to go outside to potty but will use a litter box if no one is around to let her out.
