Diana Ross, Barbara Streisand, Eartha Kitt, Judy Garland, Reba McIntyre, Madonna, almost any star you can think of has probably had problems. A Marilyn Monroe book would be nice too. Any of the old stars had a lot of adversity because women weren't considered equals or as talented. If a woman could sing, well, she isn't as strong an actress, yada,yada. So I hope I helped you out!

Do you want to encourage or discourage the kid? A lot of singers overcame obstacles but some of the stories are inherently discouraging. I keep thinking give the kid music instead.
