The budgeting process has to start in reality based on what you actually eat and drink. So, start by tracking what u r spending today. You will need 30 days of data. In our home we cook complete meals from scratch, which cuts costs some. If you like frozen meals, then your cost structure will be different.
$300 a month for a single person may be close, but the method above covers all family situations. Remember to include the pop corn, beer or wine.

best way i've found is to actually go shopping, and if you get paid bi-weekly, then shop for two weeks worth of meals and snacks, drinks, and trash bags, paper towels, tp, etc.... Take a calculator (there's prob one in ur cell phone) and keep your recipts, and the next time you get paid, do it again, and average your two reciepts. This should give you a good idea. for me, living by myself, i usually average about $100 each time i go shopping, typically twice a month. I also make sure i go shopping at the same place, each time, that keeps your costs close to the same. I like super walmart, because their prices are lower, and you can get anything else you need while you're there. REMEMBER that if you try the off brands, they're cheaper, and a lot of the time they're better too. Good luck!!

Five to eight dollars per day per person. This does not allow for dining out.
Smart making a budget.
