I've never seen a pregnant woman drinking alcohol (thank goodness), but I have seen pregnant women smoking and I think it's atrocious! It is sickening to think that someone would put their unborn child in so much danger, especially since studies are now showing smoking moms "program" their children to smoke!
Funny thing about that--there's a sign outside of my OB's office that says "Smoking Moms Will NOT Receive an Epidural!" I can never remember to ask my OB whether or not that's true and if there's a medical reason why, or if they just want to give pregnant women an additional incentive to quit :)

I smoked the whole way through out my pregnancys and both my sons are disgustingly healthy. Yes i also had an occassional drink (2-3 drinks max). Both my pregnancies were unplanned but if they had been planned i would have quit smoking prior to conception. The effect of nicotin withdrawls on a already cranky hormonal pregnant person is not a pretty thing and puts you under more stress and stress is not good for the baby. I did cut down a lot though. As for drinking, i had very bad indigestion(couldnt sleep) and my doctor actually suggested a small glass of red wine with dinner and one before bed. After i started that i had the most blissful pregnancy. Both of my kids are more healthy than some peoples kids whos mom quit smoking and drinking. Both were 6lb9 52cm long and head circ33cm. Labours were both no drugs and short and easy(6 hours-2 hours respectively). And both children are active healthy and developing a bit faster than normal. What should drive you crazy is women who whilst pregnant smoke a pack and a half a day, binge drink until they throw up or do drugs. Now that will **** a baby up.

It absolutely disgusts me. I knew a woman that I used to work with who smoked the whole 9 months. She actually told me that she'd rather not have a heavy baby anyway and she smoked through all 3 of her other pregnancies. (and, of course, her daughter was born with deadly asthma....I guess she didn't put that together.) This was not just some street person either. She was an educated woman working in the corporate setting. Just goes to show you that ignorance is everywhere.
Also, I've noticed recently with friends of mine that their doctors are telling them that it is ok to have the occasional glass of wine. (no hard liquor or beer) So, I have seen a few pregnant women drinking alcohol and I am stunned that they would even take their chances. I absolutely would not.
So, to answer your question - yes, it makes me insane to see people taking those risks.

I hate it!! It made me so mad when I was pregnant and still does. I think its very selfish. And what I don't get is women who quit the whole 9 months during pregnancy and then only to start up again after they give birth and smoke around their baby.
I don't get it.

Absolutely, I can't stand it. That baby can't help that YOU chose for it to live inside your body. If you are smoking and drinking, that baby has no say in the matter, not fair. It is so dangerous for the baby and also can lead to problems for the baby! So please give your baby the best chance.

Thankfully, I've never experienced that, but I have had students of mothers who took drugs during their pregnancies. I have seen kids in the front seat of a car or not in a car seat in general and that really angers me. I don't get these people to be honest! WHY?????
