u can set the password before booting itself. for that u need to enter in bios. as soon as u turn on ur computer keep hitting 'del' button continuously till u get the bios screen. there u find an option as set password. select that and set password. so no one can access ur computer without that password. but if anyone open ur computer panel and remove the cmos battery the password will be deleted. u can also setup password for windows. for that u need to enter in control panel-user admin-find the user and set password.

Go into the Control Panel
Click on the Users Icon
Find your log on ID
Set a password for the ID
Now no one can log on the computer as you without your password

Your computer should have a BIOS password feature, if you know how to enter into the BIOS start-up process.

go to your bios setup menu(before windows starts,when the pc is starting,hit del or f2 or f8 it depends),look around there for password protection and activate it
