I am the queen of scratching and breaking CD's! Some CD's I have bought three times! If you don't normally have a problem with CD's getting scratched and skipping then I would just go out and buy a new CD to replace it. But if you are like me, there's something out there called the "Skip Doctor" that you can get for around $20-$30 which buffs out the surface of CD's and takes the scratches out. However, this will not work on deeply scratched CD's. Also, it might be the CD player. There is something out there you can purchase to clean CD players. They are an actual CD with a small brush on it that will clean the part of the CD player that reads the CD. Just ask your local electronics store for either!

Clean the cd or the cd player. If it has a big scratch on it then you'll have to get a new copy.

Use Exact Audio Copy to slowly copy the CD to the computer to be sure to have the best copy possible. And then burn that copy to a blank CD-R.

Get some cd cleaner, and to make sure it doesn't happen to any more cds, rip them to your computer as soon as you get them. that way even if the original cd gets scratched, you can burn a new one.

use a soft cloth and gently rub it. sometimes it skips because of fingerprints. if there are scratches on the bottom, you can always try those cd-cleaners. i've also heard toothpaste or peanut butter works, but i've never tried that.

i usually take it out and clean it with a cd cleaner, and blow it before i put it back in (make sure it has no dust on it). or just wipeing it works too.
