U can masturbate without lubrication, but it feels better, and takes less time if you use lubrication. But then u gotta think of the cleanup time involved with using lubrication, so with some people it's a wash. I personally dont use any :)

My point of view is that lubrication makes it much more satisfying. There's more sensitivity. Doing it the dry way is not as complete. On one "hand", the lubrication can simulate a moist or wet vagina. On the other "hand", the dry method works for a fast get-off. The dry method makes it a little raw if done for a long time.
