The 14 yr old kid next door babysits for me, but I only let her babysit if her mom is at home to back her up. She makes £5 ph for watching spongebob with my daughter - not bad for a 14 yr old!

I started babysitting when I was 15. I don't think there is a set age. Whenever you are mature enough to take the responsibility.

I don't know if there is a hard age. You need to be mature enough for one.
If you're young and want to babysit, you could offer to babysit while your or their mom or dad are home, then you have supervision.
I believe it all comes down to responsibility and trust.

I babysat when I was 12. I had to watch 3 kids (they weren't much younger than me - 10, 8, and 6)

It varies from place to place but ages 14-16 are good ages to start.
