I have found that there are a few things that help my students improve with math. The first is to make sure that you don't just know the basics (adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing) but understand what they really mean. The second is make sure you are practicing the correct way to do things. The third is flashcards. I have my students that are having trouble make up flashcards with examples. I then tell them to look at them while they are watching television during the commercials.
Good luck.
