My brother recently uninstalled windows xp and reinstalled it to fix a diffrent problem, and now the sound wont work although all the drivers say they are working properly. I click on windows media player and it says that the sound device isnt installed or is being used by another program (which it is installed and it isnt being used) HELP MEEEEEEEEE!!!!! i need my music

I tried it and it wont let me pick anyting nothing is lit up

Since you say the drivers are all good, I'll assume you checked device manager, and it's all clean with no "yellow bangs."

Go to Start -> Control Panel

Make sure you are in "Classic view" (like windows 2000 or 98)

Go to "Sounds and Audio devices" and double-click.

Select the Audio tab.

Under Sound playback, make sure your default device is your soundcard.

Go into device manager and remove the sound card from there, then reboot and have XP re-detect the sound card and re-install the drivers. If it's a CL card, then see about getting the latest drivers and do the update.
