I like to tan. I have NEVER said anything like you quoted and wouldnt dare. I worked in a tanning salon. Theres one simple answer to your question. To feel sexy! When you tan, everything looks better! Hides fat, clears up acne etc. We had the same amount as guys tanning as women so not a gender thing. There is a point that a person can be too tanned though. Also please remember that some people go to tanning beds for a theraputic effect. Sunlight during the winter months can help depression.

I don't think it has a thing to do with race overall. I think that God has given us the sun and skin that naturally turns darker in the sun. So why not enjoy it? Most folks think that being very pale is sickly looking, because it might suggest the person never leaves his or her house, works too much, or is ill. So having a good tan makes you think the person is vital, out there skiing or in the pool or gardening. Tans look healthy. Fake tans that turn your skin to leather though..that's something else all together.

Don't generalise! I LOVE my pure white skin and I make sure that I'm covered when the Sun comes out (wear more clohtes even if I'm really hot and put factor 60 lotion on my skin). My superior pale white skin colour is flawless, spotless and perfect. Just like it's meant to be. I would never want to compare it to darker people's skin because I know their skin won't measure up. My boyfriend (of different race) also loves my all-over pale complexion.

Why do "whites"? - Yeah, don't mess about with generalisations just say it how it is.
Think you are missing the word "some" and "people" in your question.
A bit back in history, people who were tanned were supposed to be considered more wealthy as they could afford to go abroad to get an all over tan, rather than holidaying in this country. Think maybe that started the trend to do it. It also gives you the appearance of being thinner. People also look healthier with a tan.

Simle -- Because our great Leader -- Barmy Blair said we must all "Be the Same" and NOT OFFEND our Muslims friends or any of the other "Easily Offended" Complainers and Whingers - the "Good News" is that we are all going to be Issued with "Veils and Burkhas" so no one know who is who any more .. I Hope this clears up your little Problem -- so that you can "Get On" doing something "Usefull"

Its because people think its healthier looking. We are never happy with the way we look...no matter what.
Personally I'm gonna stay the color that i am. I don't want to die of skin cancer. I'm not going to go fake bake. If I'm out in the sun doing various things and i would happen to get a tan...then i tan. But I'm not going to purposely go out and tan.

i have a friend who is from the philliapanes (cant spell i know) who is always saying that he wants my pale white skin, i dont immediately start thinking that he's discriminating against me by comparing our skin colour, get over yourself. its not always about race or discrimination, sometimes its just a simple comment
