I think all "Dashounds" guard the gates to hell...I was playing in my yard and minding my own business and this winnie dog comes out of nowhere and bites me...I still have the scar on my leg from 27 years ago. Glad you love yours and all, but please watch him/her around children.

I currently have a dachshund and love him. They are very sweet dogs. Mine loves to cuddle and get under the covers if you let him. However, they are a lot of work to train. I have had to be VERY strict and consistent with my dachshund! I think they must be very smart dogs. Mine easily figures out how to get around basic training ideas. When I first got him, I got some tips from dog trainers as to how to train him. Their tips only worked for so long as my dog cared. He didn't even care a lot of the time if somebody was happy with him.
So, I had to come up with my own way to train him. I just found whatever way I could to show him who is boss. He obeys me now and likes to do whatever I ask him to do. He is very loving.

Yes, I have 5 of them. They are fierce, bold and extremely loving and contrary to many people's beliefs they don't bite...all breeds have some with bad attitudes, but if a dachshund is treated with love and affection, they will not bite.
They are breeding "toy" size now..!! wonder what weight they will be?
I've owned a dachshund since I was 8 years old and wouldn't have any other breed.

Dachshunds are great. Very protective and loving. But they can get down in their back at an older age and end up costing you alot of money.

I raise miniature dachshunds and they are the best, most loyal, lovable breed! I love my black and tan female and wildboar female. We're expecting a litter in a few days!
