So i got this homework and i need to do a karyotype. The teacher gave us the chromosomes and i took the ones that look like each other and put them in pairs and i got 47 chromosomes, i think the person has an extra X put how can i know which one is it, how can i defferentiate the X chromosomes form the others?

You should probably have a normal male karyotype for comparison, so you can pick out the x and y chromosomes. Here are some references for practice:

Also the y chromosome is typically small, and has a particular banding pattern foir identification on karyotype:
http://ghr.nlm.nih.gov/chromosome=Y

Without specific staining, it is difficult to identify which chromosome is which. However, you can deduce from having 23 pairs of matched chromosomes on a karyotype plus a single small Y, that you are most likely looking at an XXY karyotype.

With staining, the X chromosome looks like this:

This is not Edwards syndrome. Someone with XXY would be a female with masculine qualities.
