Hash (British)
Pound (from US phones)
Sharp (this is from music)
Number (keyboard)

Some people call it the "pound" sign, while others refer to it as the "number" sign. However, if you say pound sign to someone from the UK, they will mean an entirely different symbol.

On a phone it's called a "Pound" sign. In Unix it's called a "She". It's also called the "Number Sign" when used as #1, etc.

In English it is called the Hash. In the USA it is called a Pound because they are a bit ignorant. Also, Microsoft have started calling it "Sharp" (e.g. C#). I guess Bill Gates should buy his own island where he can make up a national language.
