Routers are generally pretty easy to set up; just follow the instructions. For personal use, you shouldn't need to spend more than about US$50; any router should work (although I would avoid Netgear -- their technical support is not good). I have a Linksys WRT54G, which is a relatively popular model.

D-link works well with me so far. The installation is easy for most brands. Just follow the instruction in the booklet and everything's can be done in less than 10 minutes.
