There are differences in our ways of thought primarily because the very genders we are. Women have for thousand of years been given the subserviant roll, it is only recently that this has begun to change. However, the patriarcial culture in which most countries live is still un-nerved by the whole idea. If we look at the males of other species we see for the most part they live somewhat alone and are only around during the mating season. Whereas the females are the ones who estabilsh the pecking order within the pride, or hurd and care for the young. Though in many cases the pecking order is assigned in order of birth.
Though the role of humans may be a bit different you will note that for the most part the same general ideas apply. Men are hunter gatherers and women are generally matriarcal. Though thoughout the ages changes within the social structures have made it necessary for roles to change. Overall I think that both male and female are very adaptive, and can for the most part reverse roles without to much discomfort. However, sexually we will always be different because it is always the role of woman to carry the child. This is the key component that makes men and women so different. Basicially it is the physiological thing that women must bear, that men can and will never understand. Just as there are psycological pressures on men that women will never understand. It is perhaps best if we recognize these differences, understand that we don't understand and accept that we never will, then get on with our lives and make sure that everyone gets the respect they have truly earned.

Psychologically and physically men are different from women and women are different from men. Women are built genetically with two XX's, men with an XY. The Y gene develops a man to be a man, not just physically but mentally as well.
Naturally women tend to be better nurturers, it is in their genetic coding after thousands of years as being the nurturer. Only in the 1960s/1970s has this changed and it will take a few thousand years more to change that basic instinct. It is the same with men, men tend to be more war like, protecting their domain and family.
Also, Borat says female brains are smaller then male brains. LOL!
But seriously, there are genetic and psychological differences.

Brains that form in utero in the presence of testosterone are "wired" differently than those that form with only estrogen present. How could this NOT translate into different psychologies?
Also, simply look at the behavioral differences between men and women or between boys and girls. Even though the political correctness lobby wants everybody to believe that such behavioral differences betweent he sexes are simply a result of how they've been conditioned by society, such a claim does not stand up to scientific scrutiny.
Men & women DO have psychological differences. And that, my friends, is a GOOD thing.

Aside from every other difference that has been covered here ( you others, who do not think there is a difference, give it up, the scientific battle is over ) the biggest difference between men and women is their reproductive strategy.

I don't think men and women are as different as many people need them to be. I'm thinking that for our culture this need has to do with "Victorian" values and the idea that sexual urges are "dirty." Try as we might it is very difficult to completely divest ourselves of these feelings.
So what I think happens is that when a guy is attracted to a girl (and the other way around) he ultimately feels a little dirty and loathsome. I know this feeling will vary widely from person to person but it's in there a little for most of us.
So we feel dirty. That girl "made" me feel dirty. There must be something bad about her because I'm not as dirty as all that. So I look for things to say are different and bad about her. We do this to distance ourselves from an embarrassing feeling and from the type of person who elicited it in us.
So we need to think of the opposite sex as being as different from us as possible. That's how I think we may often be exaggerating our differences.
This occurred to me because I was thinking of the ways it must be different for a gay man to feel about his love interests. What's he going to do? Hate men (himself) because men are cute. Being gay I have personally noticed lots of gay men who don't like what men are like and plenty of straight people who do like what the other sex is like. But I think this has something to do with it for a lot of people.
What do you think?

I dont think, psychologically there really are. I think physical differences lead us to think different but all in all, we all want the same basic things-to be loved, cared for, understood, and accepted.
