and still keep the "worldly" Christmas fun - (santa, reindeers, frosty, etc)

I don't have children - but my husband and I have been struggling with this issue. He doesn't want our children to ever believe in Santa ... I am ok with that ... but I don't know how, this day in age, you can't teach your kids about santa... ?

Ideas?
Thanks :)

Basically, as 2 seperate things without them knowing. We teach them about Jesus and his story and that's the real reason, but as a family (which Jesus would want you to enjoy-he didnt' put us here to be bored or bore him) we celebrate Christmas also with the gifts, tree and traditions. As for Santa Claus (as you said in todays age) we let them believe he exists, as the rest they will eventually come to find out he doesn't. For all I know, they see me wrapping gifts sometimes and it will click in sooner or later. There is nothing wrong with Santa, as long as the kids know there are 2 very different reasons for celebrating. Best of luck.

This worked well for us. My kids are 26 and 23. We never had that horrifying revelation that Santa wasn't real because I always taught them he wasn't real. There is no getting away from Santa. He is everywhere. My mantra for the season was Santa is for fun and make-believe. Jesus is real.
Of course we talked about Jesus year round. He was always in our home. Santa came and went.
We had a creche that the children could play with during Christmas so they could act out the Christmas story with the figures. This made Jesus birth more real to them.
God bless you and Merry Christmas.

You get the Bible stories out and let them learn about the birth of Christ first. Then when they are old enough you teach them about Christmas and Santa. Start at a young age and they will understand. Teach them that they should not tell the other children. Have you ever read the story about Virginia? That really explains alot to childern.

I tried not to do the Santa thing, let my kid know I was Santa. Didn't work too well.
Explain the true meaning of Christmas and do things together that are about Christmas. Buying toys for charities together, helping with food drives, clothes drives, etc. Explain how poor Mary and Joseph were at the time and the wise men brought them very important & value gifts to help support Jesus.
Explain the Santa part is your way of being the wisemen to modern day families, and you exchange gifts as Santa to celebrate the giving of spirit of Christmas. It reminds you how the Wisemen helped Jesus, plus it was his birth day and they wanted to celebrate it with him. Santa does the samething by bringing gifts to children on Jesus's birthday.

Your 2nd answer has some great ideas. You might also consider teaching your kids about Saint Nicholas who was a real person and the origin of the modern day Santa.

Teach your kids about Santa. It will help them grow deductive reasoning skills, and establish the fact that what they are told by authority, they should not take at face value. This will help them in the future when deciding for themselves who to vote for, and they will also learn to recognize that religion is not "true" because people say it's "true."

What a great lesson in intellectual exercise!

I never lie to them and give credit to a Santa but allow them to view him for the colorful and fun character he is. They recognize that we give them their gifts and that we do so because of Jesus's birth and his ultimate sacrifice for mankind. We also teach them to give.
