Im 16.4 weeks and am starting to feel the baby moving. At nighttime, whilst laying flat, my partner lightly patters my tummy with his fingers, a bit like the patter of raindrops, and I swear the baby responds, it seems to get more active! is this possible this early or am i imagining this?

It is definately possible! CONGRATULATIONS!!!
Your partner however, will not be able to feel it for a few weeks to come...but lucky you...you are the first to feel your little life moving around! It is a wonderful sensation huh?!
Just wait...within a couple more months, the baby's feet will be jammed up in your ribs and she will start to get the hiccups just before you want go to sleep!! Cherish these times...within days of giving birth...you will actually forget what it felt like and you will look at this little human being and just be shocked that it was once inside of you.
Good luck and CONGRATULATIONS!

It's not too early to feel the baby move if you're really in tune with your body. And if the baby is in a favorable position. Some people don't feel the baby until after 20 weeks. You're very lucky!

No, that is about the time I felt my first actual kick. But I was feeling fluttering around week 12 probaby sooner...just wasn't sure what it was at the time. I realized that it was the baby when she'd respond to something I ate like brownies. It was about week 22 or 24 that she responded to sound outside the womb.

Totally. I felt it by 14 weeks with baby #1 and 11 weeks with baby #2. Enjoy! I always felt so connected to the baby when it happened! :)

Congratulations, you are feeling your baby for the first time! That is exactly the time most women begin to feel the baby move. Amazing isn't it? Have fun, talking to, reading to, and patting that belly. Your baby will love every minute of it!

It seems pretty early to be feeling the baby, but that doesn't mean that you are not feeling it. I am also not sure if the baby is responding to your partners tappings or if it just happens at the same time.
You see babies sleep while you are being active, the motion lulls them to sleep, but when you are resting they wake up and move about.

You could be feeling your baby at 16 weeks. That's when I felt my son first move.
