I agree with Blue Faerie, it's not only about Jesus, it's about love and friendship.
Is it wrong to celebrate Labor Day if I don't believe in working?

Not at all; besides being about Jesus' birthday, it's about love and family and friendship.....what's wrong with Christmas these days is the commercialism and the way people have forgotten that it's about people and not presents, let alone what it's really about.

Edit: Wow, I didn't realize there were that many people who think you can't celebrate Christmas if you don't believe in Jesus. That's kinda sad.

No, not at all. Remember that the time of year when we celebrate Christmas is not actually when Christ was born. His family went to Bethlehem in the spring for the census, and on top of that the city was full for passover.

Christmas in December comes from a Roman emporer who wanted to combine the birth of Christ with the pagan celebration during the winter solstice.

So take your day off from work, maybe trade gifts, or just relax. Remember why you have the day off, but don't feel guilty. We have enough real reasons for guilt, we don't need to add made up reasons on top of it all.

I guess, depending on how you look at it. I know lots of Jewish and Hindu families that celebrate Christmas but their version of Christmas isn't the same as a Christian's!!! They celebrate the family and the gift-giving aspect of it but most definitely do not follow the Jesus' birth part!

I know a few people who do this, and I don't think it's wrong. I am a bit confused by it, though - Afterall, the real meaning of Christmas has to do with Jesus. It's the commercialization of the holiday that has everyone celebrating and joining in on the festivities, I think. To each their own, if it makes people happy, why not?

No. People are good or bad with and without Church. I think this time of the year is actually a bit better without religion getting in the way. When we were little, religion was not a factor, this made us think of all walks of life. Today, religion is in the way and everyone has to worry about "offending" someone else with some Holiday Spirit. Pretty soon there will be a law or something to banish Xmas, that would really suck. Then they will all be sorry.

It seems a bit hypocritical to me if you embrace all of the Christian trappings--a nativity scene, etc. But, hey, originally Christmas was a pagan holiday so bring on the mistletoe, the tree, the food and the lights. Let's celebrate Solstice! The pagan stuff is what's fun about Christmas anyway.

I think that although Christmas is about celebrating the birth of Jesus that those who aren't Christians can still enjoy the spirit of giving, peace and goodwill that the season brings. That's what the Bible says, after all... 'Goodwill toward men', and that means everyone, even those who don't believe.

So Merry Christmas to all! =)
