I have been in a pretty steady relationship with my bf for about 4 years but am waiting for him to pop the question. How do i know when is the right time?

Obviously timing depends on the individuals. If you think the two of you are ready for marriage then I think you should at least bring up the subject with your boyfriend. I'm not suggesting a proposal just a discussion. Keep in mind a lot of things change when you're married. A good marriage is more than just two people that are really attracted to one another. There's a compatibility issue on many levels. To name a few:
Do you feel your bf is as responsible as you and would you trust him to make legal and medical decisions on your behalf?
Is religion more important to one then the other?
Are you frugal with money and is he a big spender? (many marriages end over money problems)
Do both of you have the same idea of family? (i.e. do you want a lot of kids and maybe he wants one)

I'm not saying a difference in opinions will not make a good marriage but I'm a firm believer in knowing exactly what you're getting into before tying the knot.

When the both of you arent only in love, but are mature enough to handle the unexpected daily rigors. Also, when the both of you are financially responsible. Two children who usually marry will divorce when they gain wisdom and mature. Love is a frame of mind, however respect is easier to maintain. Which do you think between the two keeps a marriage together?
