If so, why do non-believers put up and decorate Christmas trees?

The putting up of an evergreen in the month of December and decorating it with ornaments and placing gifts for your loved ones underneath it is a Pagan tradition. It celebrates the Winter Solstice in which we honor the past year and welcome the new. The "Christmas" tree is NOT a Christian symbol. Christians "stole" the holiday of Yuletide from the pagans in an attempt to convert them from their "heathen" ways into the Cult of Christianity.
Merry Yule and Blessed Be!!!

Actually, it's origins are more likely related with pagan European cultures, prior to Christianity. Trees were important symbols in the ancient cults, that focused on nature as a deity.
Christmas trees were probably incorporated by European Christians in the same way some African cults, like "candomblé" survived in Christian communities in Africa and Brazil.
Many Christmas symbols have unsuspected origins. Saint Nikolaus (Santa Claus), who died on December 6Th, 343, lived in Asia Minor (Modern Turkey), not in the North Pole :-) , and was originally a patron of seamen...

No. It is a Pagan/Wiccan symbol, and I put one up because I follow Wicca. The Tree symbolizes life in the midst of winter, A tree that will not die, just as the earth will never die.

Christians took that symbol away from the peasents in order to convert them.

The Christimas tree has nothing to do with Christianity. It was one of many Pagan symbols stolen by the Christians as a way to gain converts.

The device needs to keep turning to create salary. an excellent analogy will be throwing someone right into a lake that can't swim and then jumping in to save them. You recklessly endanger then you change right into a hero. have you ever considered the list of ways many circumstances the ACLU throws Christians into the lake?
