I would love to know why any civialian in Chile would support that (dead) guy.

Its beyond me, but people have supported tyrants throughout history.

For the same reason that people supported Castro, Peron, Saddam, Franco, Mussolini, Stalin, and Hitler. They actually benefited from these regimes through things like public housing, law and order, health care, trains that run on time, a sense of national pride, the new autoban or not having anymore Jewish neighbors.

who really knows.. but from the looks of it, he helped a lot of people in Chile and thats the reason why they supported him through his death
