Some words relevant to addition of sinusoidal waves are reinforcement, and cancellation or nulling. The phase difference is very important. A 180 degree phase difference means cancellation; either partial if the two waves are unequal in amplitude or total if they are equal. Other phase differences will affect both the amplitude and the phase of the resultant.
