everyone who has answered above is pretty much correct with all their answers but one detail some also have left out is that it is mandatory in women's hockey to wear a full face shield or full cage at all times and, in certain instances, if at anytime during a slight altercation a player removes her cage, she gets assessed an unsporstmanlike penalty followed by a misconduct....
so if the rules are that strict about keeping your face shield or cage on than you know they aren't allowed to fight...
but like I said before everyone else is correct too with their answers

Women's hockey is a less physical sport in general. Bodychecking is not even allowed.

In the men's game, there is a fine line between a brutal but clean hit and a cheap shot. Fighting is allowed because it gives somebody who is picking himself off the ice a way to retaliate without swinging his stick at another player (which is verboten in all leagues at all levels).

Since there isn't violent contact in women's hockey, there really isn't a need to allow fighting either.

In international play, fighting is not allowed for both men and women. But I would love to see Hayley Wickenhiser beat the crap out of a US player though. lol

I'm not sure if this is under IIHF rules, but they should allow womens' hockey to have more contact and checking though. Hockey isn't hockey without that. It's more like....field hockey.

Because men's hockey is a contact sport and women's hockey isn't. It may look like it in international play because the women come as close as possible to contact without getting called for it, but there is no checking allowed.

Men have balls which most Women don't, Kick a Man in the Groin he's going to get hurt, do that to a Woman Its not going to bother her.

Furthermore Men are More Aggressive and Cockier then Women so Its in Man's Nature to Fight.

Good question. With the stupid new rules in the NHL I don't see why women can't play with the men now anyways. The NHL's not a man's league now.
