They tried it in America back in the 1920s, it was called prohibition, it just pushed the manufacture of alchohol and its consumption underground. So it was still being consumed, but the government was`nt getting any revenue from it, not a smart move. Instead gangsters like Al Capone were raking in all the profits. So the answer to your question is that it would`nt work and the government would lose revenue.

They tried that. It was called Prohibition. Alcohol itself is not the problem, it is the misuse of it. Just like most other things. Not ALL people who drink become addicted. It is a genetic condition. Alcoholics lack a gene in the liver which processes alcohol. Just like diabetics lack the gene to process sugars.

The 18th amendment was made to prohibit alcohol in the 1920s. Unfortuntly bootlegging was done by gangsters like Al Capone amoung others who sold beer illegaly and smuggled it in to the citites like Chicago. People were getting killed over it so Congress made the 21st amendment to overturn the Prohibition Act.

they tried it already, america banned all alcohol during the 1950's i believe it didnt work, ppl just bought alcohol on the black market or brewed their own, which just made them ill. big outcry when they did ban it.. and people have human rights and their own will to decide whether they want to drink or not
plus the government make too much money from the selling of alcohol, just like with cigarettes they wont totally ban smoking
