Auditing is just a component of accounting. If you have an accounting degree, you can become an auditor. However, note that not all accounting firms require accounting degrees as a condition of employment. When I was originally hired by one of the Big 4 accounting firms years and years ago (I work for another Big 4 now), my degree was in engineering (yeah, big career change) and there were a number of people in my start group that did not have accounting degrees. Some were finance majors, economics majors, general business majors, and we even had one fine arts major and one English major. What I've found is that the larger accounting firms is a bit more flexible as to hiring non-accountants for accounting positions.

You need a degree in accounting to become an accountant. Hard courses, though, I must say. An auditor, im not so sure about. You may get away with taking just taking some classes..but im not positive.
