One gift could be a t-shirt with a guitar brand name on it such as Fender. Go to a fret store and look around and ask what they would suggest. Does he have a nice guitar case for it? Foot pedals? Microphones and portable amp. Ask any other friend who plays guitar, they probably have some good ideas. What about tickets to his favorite band if they are in the area?

Get him CDs with god guitarists like Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, or Santana. Also get him expensive guitar picks and even a new guitar. The type depends on what kind of music he likes the most. For jazz: a jazz guitar, metal: a Warlock, etc...
