I have to give this one to The Grandmaster. Why? Because he truly enjoys his work and that will make all the difference in their confrontation.

The Grandmaster is the premiere strategist in the Marvel Universe. Like Batman, he would instantly develop multiple angles, layer various scenarios to the extent that Metron would no longer know who he was fighting.

The Grandmaster doesn't attack directly but he does attack. These attacks would come at Metron from all angles, from various time periods, from friends and enemies alike. Every single detail manipulated, every event prophesied, every confrontation leading to another.

This is not an old school fight between two strong guys out-muscling each other. No... that's for the "lower class" species. This is a fight between immortals.

The Grandmaster was wily enough to trick death into giving all elders something better than immortality... they are denied access to death's realm so none of them can ever die.

On the issue of power, the Grandmaster is considered one of the most powerful beings in the Marvel Universe (the source link below will detail incredible powers) and includes the ability to will a being to die. He doesn't employ these powers, because he enjoys the entire trip not just the destination.

In contrast to the Grandmaster, Metron is a student of knowledge and technology. This is what he lives for. He'll try to manipulate but he's outclassed here (a JLA story had Metron being used as a pawn to a better manipulator - Darkseid). He will use his technology but it remains technology and something the Grandmaster can match. He works alone and this will be his downfall.

The Grandmaster is often underrated and defeated because of various plot devices writer's need to insure an interesting story. The power available to him comes from within (not technology), though he also uses among the most advanced technology to achieve his ends.

With the Grandmaster fighting to win - no holds barred... he would use this intellect, multiple strategies, his power, technology and a large assortment of pawns - all working together to defeat Metron.

Checkmate... The Grandmaster.

Ah. c'mon. If Grandmaster can't defeat the Phantom Stranger (and you KNOW he can't, given that you agreed with my previous analysis) then how can you expect GM to prevail against Metron...? Metron has the Mobius Chair, is conversant with the Force, controls the Boom Tube, etc. I just don't think that Grandmaster could stand against him. GM has lots of hype going for him, he has a tough rep. But Metron isn't impressed with such things. Grandmaster is just another mysterious but ultimately less powerful guy that Metron will pin to a card and stick in his collection.
